Fortuna Düsseldorf are in danger of being relegated from the Bundesliga as they are 16th in the table.
SportBild takes a look at the players Fortuna could lose, if they were drop down to the lower division.
Zack Steffen is one among them as the goalkeeper joined the German side on loan from Manchester City last summer. It’s claimed Schalke ‘show great interest’, while Borussia Dortmund have also asked about him.
Another report from SportBild provides a detailed update on Schalke’s interest in the City owned goalkeeper. The American is one of the targets for them, along with Norwich City’s Tim Krul.
Steffen is represented by Wassermann Group and David Wagner’s side have made their interest known to the player’s representative. Schalke will not be in a position to pay a hefty fee to Manchester City and therefore, they would be looking to take the custodian on loan.
If Fortuna are relegated, they may still want to extend his loan stay. However, Steffen could prefer to join Schalke since it’s more attractive to play at the highest level.
City’s Champions League ban for two years could be a hindrance. SportBild states Ederson could push for a move away from the Etihad, if there’s no European football next season.
That seems unlikely, though.
