Fulham summer target Morato is about to be rewarded following his failed transfer to the Whites.
According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, Benfica are set to give the centre-back a new contract at the club.
The outlet claims that the Eagles will give the player a pay rise right after they turned down Fulham’s attempt to sign him.
It’s recalled that the Whites placed a bid worth €25m for the transfer, and that was turned down by the Lisbon side.
O Jogo report that Fulham also made a big effort to convince the player, offering him ‘high numbers’, willing to pay him four times what he currently makes at Benfica.
Morato really liked the offer and even asked to leave, trying to convince the Eagles to accept the bid, but club president Rui Costa considered the amount involved weren’t enough for a deal.
That’s the reason Benfica are now rewarding the player for staying. At first, they’re just giving him the pay rise, but they could end up also extending the deal, which expires in 2027 and includes a €100m release clause.
