Atalanta have not given up on a move for Celtic’s Matt O’Riley and are continuing to close the gap with Brendan Rodgers side to get him.

That’s according to Corriere dello Sport and Corriere della Sera, who both insist that the Europa League winners are continuing to push to make a deal happen.

Corriere dello Sport say outright that Atalanta are ‘not giving up’ on the Celtic midfielder and could soon ‘relaunch’ their efforts to get him.

They are capable of reducing the distance between their offer, which was €18m with bonuses, and Celtic’s initial request, which was €25-30m and it seems they intend to do so at some point soon with a revised bid.

Corriere della Sera say the same, reporting that Atalanta will improve upon their initial bid of €18m plus €3m in bonuses for the Celtic star.

Celtic are believed to want €25m to sanction O’Riley’s departure from Celtic Park but that gap of €4m is not insurmountable and a deal ‘seems close’ for the Italian side.

Their suggestion is that an agreement will be reached somewhere in the middle, with Atalanta perhaps offering an improved figure plus bonuses to get it up to the €25m that Celtic want for the Dane.

Either way, a renewed effort appears to be on the cards and the Italian side haven’t given up by a longshot.
