When the rumours first began about Wout Weghorst’s move to Manchester United, it was thought the striker would be switching clubs on a loan basis.
Being on loan at Besiktas from Burnley at the moment, his time in Turkey would be brought to an end and the Championship club would simply send him on loan to Old Trafford instead.
There were early hints in Turkey that things would not be so easy. Besiktas came out publicly to make clear that Burnley had no clause to simply end the loan. There would have to be negotiations, and the Super Lig club wanted compensating, and not trivially.
Fotospor report Besiktas are set to make a ‘fortune’ from the move, as much as €4-5m. That would represent 35% of the fee, according to the report, and it’s made clear it would be a sale, not a loan, from Burnley to Manchester United.
Once again, Weghorst is said to be personally pushing for the move, which is no surprise given the opportunity being offered to him.
