On the verge of losing Jurriƫn Timber to Arsenal for a big transfer fee, Ajax Amsterdam are looking at Liverpool to fill the gap.
While they could try and convince the Reds with their new money to sign one of the more experienced stars at Anfield, their eyes are set on Sepp van den Berg.
This is according to Voetbal International, who state the Eredivisie side want to āstrengthen their defenceā with the young Liverpool centre-back.
Van den Berg spent last season on loan at Schalke 04, but returned after the deal ran out, meaning he is available for other clubs to rent.
Itās pointed out there is āalso German interestā in the 21-year-old, and Liverpool are āprepared to cooperateā for an exit, even if they would rather it be on a temporary basis.
Ajax are said to be āseriously interestedā in the arrival of the centre-back, as they try to bring one, or even two players ādue to the departureā of the aforementioned Timber.
Regarding that German interest, itās said both Union Berlin and FSV Mainz 05 are also keen, giving the player and Liverpool some potential choice over his next steps.
Mainz are said to be in ‘pole position’ for now after the player arrived from Liverpool earlier today.
As for the clubs, they are talking about a potential loan or permanent transfers, and more discussions are scheduled to determine the best course of action.
