Gennaro Gattuso has asked Valencia to sign AFC Bournemouth’s Jefferson Lerma.

That’s according to Fichajes.net, who state the coach’s ‘great obsession’ is to strengthen the defensive midfield position.

The La Liga side have several names on their agenda and the one that ‘stands out above the rest’ is the Bournemouth player.

Lerma has the experience of playing in Spain from his time at Levante between 2015 and 2018, before moving to the Vitality Stadium. He has been on Los Ches’ radar in the past and is now back on their target list because of the former Napoli coach.

The Colombia international was one of the stand-out players at Levante, something he has not managed to replicate for the Cherries. Therefore, the ‘door has been opened’ for him to return to La Liga, where Valencia are in the picture to sign him.

It’s claimed Gattuso’s side would ‘seek to take advantage’ of Lerma’s current situation at Bournemouth to secure his services. The South American, for his part, would welcome a move to Mestalla.

With Lerma’s contract expiring at the end of this season, Valencia can potentially sign him on a free transfer next summer.
