VfB Stuttgart have now officially announced their wish to buy Deniz Undav from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Loaned by the Seagulls at the start of the season, the striker had a convincing year with 19 goals and 10 assists in 33 appearances for the Bundesliga side.
Sky Deutschland now features quotes from Stuttgart director Fabian Wohlgemuth, who spoke to the Deutschen Presse-Agentur about the Brighton player.
“Deniz has clearly communicated his desire to stay at VfB. Of course we want to retain his quality for VfB. Further talks will be held with Undav’s English club Brighton & Hove Albion in a time manner.”
Previous reports from the German media had already claimed that Stuttgart can buy the player by triggering the €20m option in the contract.
However, it’s also been said that they’d like a discount on that price, and that would have to be dealt with by Brighton.
Since Wohlgemuth’s quotes don’t sound clear enough, it remains to be seen whether they’ll still try to negotiate that amount with the Seagulls. Given, Undav had a very good season in Germany, it becomes more likely that the English club will be tough in the negotiations and request the original price.
In case there isn’t a deal, then his contract with Brighton runs until 2026, with he’s valued by Transfermarkt at €22m.
