Leeds United’s failure in signing PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo towards the end of the last transfer window has not put them off.
Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink, who covers the Eredivisie side, reported in September that the Whites will return with a bid for the 23-year-old in January.
Leeds continue to be in the mix to sign the forward, who has enjoyed an impressive season so far, as he has scored 13 goals and registered 16 assists from 22 matches, and his form has also seen him draw attention from other clubs.
With Jesse Marsch’s side among the Netherlands international’s suitors, PSV have been issued a warning not to let their prized asset slip away from them in the winter market.
Journalist Marco Timmer told Voetbal International’s Skiete Willy Podcast that selling the star in the next window will be a blow for PSV sporting wise.
“If I were PSV, I would do everything I could not to sell [Gakpo] this winter. If you lose Gakpo, you might say goodbye to your title aspirations. But hopefully that will only be before next season. Then we can get some things back,” he was quoted as saying by Voetbal Primeur.
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side are second in the table with 27 points, trailing Ajax [who have a game in hand] by a point.
At the same time, Timmer remains realistic, and he is aware that PSV ‘cannot say no’ if they were to receive a ‘good offer’ for Gakpo in January, whether it be from Leeds or someone else.
