With Nicolo Zaniolo standing at the exit door at Roma, the Italian media continues to bring constant updates on his departure from the Serie A side.
And it turns out that today, it’s revealed that an attempt from Newcastle United to sign him was blocked.
The information comes from outlet Calciomercato.it, who, following a big story about Milan’s pursuit for the player, writes about the interest from abroad.
It’s said that Roma turned down an offer from Newcastle for Zaniolo’s transfer, as the Magpies reportedly wanted to pay €5m for a loan move, plus €35m for a buying option.
This option would be triggered in case Zaniolo played in 75% of their matches between now and the end of the season, but that’s said to be ‘unacceptable’ for Roma, who ‘have said no’ to that.
In case Newcastle are planning to be back with another bid, they better be aware of the competition, even from the Premier League.
That’s because Calciomercato says Tottenham Hotspur’s interest is ‘confirmed’, although the London side would only have plans to sign the midfielder on a loan deal for now, which has been said to also be with an option to buy to be made mandatory on certain conditions.
