If you watched even a small portion of Naby Keita’s time at Liverpool, you will know that the phrase ‘take it easy’ is very applicable.
The midfielder arrived at Anfield after being an all action, combative, box to box player full of energy at RB Leipzig but a series of injuries and issues meant that was never seen at Anfield.
Instead, a series of niggling injuries meant that he never hit the mark, eventually leaving Liverpool on a free transfer this summer before joining Werder Bremen, where his troubles have continued, as SportBILD now cover.
We’ve covered reports from Germany already on how Keita is yet to play for the German side since his arrival from Liverpool and SportBILD cover that more today.
They say that Bremen are ‘relying’ on Keita, who is their ‘star’ signing of the summer, to help turn around their fortunes but he is yet to feature after picking up a muscle injury in July.
Since then, he’s been ‘carefully built up’ by the club, who are taking it easy with him given his history and the fear of recurring injuries.
That’s also despite the player being ‘dying’ to play and make his mark at his new club, where he is hoping to kickstart his career and get back on track post Liverpool.
He ‘fully identifies’ with the club, something which has not gone unnoticed by those above him, who were impressed that he has completed his rehab at the club rather than travel elsewhere as most footballers do.
That’s earned him praise from club boss Clemens Fritz, who is keen to ensure they get him fit and firing but don’t make him the saviour just yet.
“Naby seems very committed and is very happy,” he said. “We shouldn’t talk about him being the savior straight away.”
He doesn’t want to put ‘too much burden’ on the player given his troubles at Anfield, which so far have followed him back to the Bundesliga.
