Having signed from Molde in Norway, David Datro Fofana was always unlikely to be a first-team regular at Chelsea this season.
The Ivory Coast international was bought for €12m, and signed a six and a half year contract with the Blues, which made it clear they had plans for him in the future, but the general consensus was that he would head out on loan at some point.
Well, there is already one club trying their luck, and that’s OGC Nice in France, according to two outlets.
Foot Mercato were the ones to break the story, claiming the Ligue 1 side are trying to bring him in on loan without an option to buy.
They point out that ‘talks have been ongoing for a few weeks with the entourage’ of the player and with Chelsea, who are ‘ready to loan him’.
However, Nice aren’t the only ones, as Bayer Leverkusen have also shown an interest.
L’Equipe corroborate the Ligue 1 club’s interest in the matter, and state the team have ‘received the verbal agreement’ from the player ‘a few days ago’.
As for Chelsea, they were ‘temporising up until now to avoid reaching their quota of loans’.
Either way, it seems this is one that could happen in the next few hours, so worth keeping an eye on.
