On Tuesday, a number of prominent Italian journalists took to Twitter to affirm that Chelsea had overtaken Monaco in the race to sign Aleksandr Golovin from CSKA Moscow.
This came a day or so after the Ligue 1 side’s vice-president gave an interview to Sport Express in Russia, claiming a bid had been made and a contract offered to the player.
Well, TuttoMercatoWeb in Italy believe another suitor is back in the mix for the Russia international, as Juventus have ‘returned to the fray over the past few hours’.
The Italian website state the Serie A champions are looking for a way to overtake Chelsea in the race, which we guess would involve convincing him that playing with Cristiano Ronaldo in the Champions League is better than getting paid more in cold and dreary London.
Whether that will work, we’ll have to wait and see, but it’s interesting to see Juventus still have some funds lying around after shelling out more than €100m on the Portuguese superstar.
Some of that money came from Fiat, sure, but there’s still the huge wages to take into account.
However, if Juventus were to get rid of some of the deadwood…
