Darwin Nunez’s performance in Liverpool’s win against Southampton on Saturday was worth many headlines in the Portuguese and English media. Firstly, because he scored twice and was crucial in the victory, and secondly, because Benfica will be making a few extra million euros because of his appearance.
As reported by newspaper Record, this was the striker’s 10th start for the Anfield side since joining the club in the summer. That’s why the Eagles are now getting €5m from the bonuses included in the deal.
Liverpool had already paid €75m for the transfer, and that amount now reaches €80m. There could be €10m more in case he gets 50 other starts, and another €10m depending on his performances, which is probably related to goals scored.
Record points out that Benfica continue to believe that the transfer fee will reach €100m.
Back in October, we had seen A Bola saying Liverpool were about to to pay that first €5m for his first ten appearances.
They were apparently wrong about that, since they corrected their story, saying he’d have to make ten starts, and now both Record and O Jogo say the clause was triggered.
