According to a claim in the Turkish media, Besiktas are to step up their pursuit of Rangers defender James Tavernier.
The right back has been linked with a move to the Turkish side in recent weeks, but it’s likely Philippe Clement doesn’t want to lose his captain this summer.
Duhuliye have reported on the latest developments regarding Tavernier’s future at Ibrox and they Besiktas’s manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst wants to be reunited with his former Rangers player.
The Dutchman has reportedly told the club’s directors that he’s a player who can improve the team.
It’s claimed the Super Lig side are ready to make a bid for the player, but it’s not been disclosed what they are prepared to offer the Scottish club as Besiktas’ executives are still weighing up what to put on the table.
The Turkish media outlet also report Tavernier is keen on the move to Istanbul and a reunion with Van Bronckhorst.
Tavernier made 58 appearances for Rangers last season, scoring 24 goals. He’s contracted to the club until June 2026.
