Ever since it was announced Nathaniel Clyne was training with Crystal Palace following the end of his contract at Liverpool, there have been reports the England international could sign a deal there.

He’d arrive on a free, giving even more depth to Roy Hodgson in the role, all the while returning to the club he developed at prior to his £3m move to Southampton back in 2012.

However, the Eagles could face some competition from abroad, as Sud-Ouest in France are reporting Bordeaux in Ligue 1 are ‘interested’.

The French club failed to make any actual signings during the transfer window, solely taking part in the free agent market since, and Clyne fits that bill.

But, and it’s an important one, they would only make the move should the sale of Youssouf Sabaly to Spartak Moscow go through.

The Russian window is set to close on October 17th, giving plenty of time for that to happen, but the suggestion is that if there’s any inkling they could definitely lose their player, they would turn to the former Liverpool and Bournemouth defender.

Whether he’s interested isn’t said, but we’ll have to wait and see who ends up making their move first: Crystal Palace or Bordeaux.

Displaced by Trent Alexander-Arnold at Anfield, Clyne was sent on loan to Bournemouth for 2018-19 season before returning to Liverpool, where he failed to make an appearance last season under Jürgen Klopp.
