Girona will spend the next few months weighing up a move for Tottenham’s Bryan Gil, with him set to return from injury in June.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who report that the Spanish side could look to renegotiate the €15m purchase clause they previously agreed with Tottenham.
Gil’s loan spell at Girona was cut short this week after he underwent surgery on a knee injury that will rule him out for four to five months.
He’ll now return to Tottenham, who have a decision to make on the player as he enters the final year of his current contract this summer and does not appear to be in their long-term plans.
The hope had been that they could sell him to Girona, who have a €15m purchase clause in his loan deal, but the injury has scuppered that.
The Spanish side’s president confirmed this week that there will be discussions over the winger and Estadio Deportivo say the same.
They report that Girona are ‘quietly considering’ what to do about the purchase option they have as the figure is not one to be ‘taken lightly’, particularly if they fail to qualify for European competition next year.
His injury is another complication, and they will now wait to see how he progresses, with the possibility of re-negotiating the €15m option being considered. Manager Míchel ‘loves him’, though, and would seemingly love to sign him permanently too.
The good news, say the newspaper, is that the medical team led by Dr. Manuel Leyes who worked on him at the Olympia Surgical Center have confirmed the ‘most favourable prognosis’ on the Tottenham man and predicted he will return to training in June.
That could leave plenty of time for negotiations between Tottenham and Girona, although any deal is likely to be done late in the window, simply because that will give Gil plenty of time to recover.
