HSV Hamburg have ‘put the brakes on’ Daniel Peretz’s potential move to Southampton this month.

That’s according to Hamburger Abendblatt. They report that despite Peretz’s desire to leave, the German club are not moving as yet.

They explain that Peretz wants to depart in search of extra playing time. Bayern Munich are willing to terminate his loan deal and loan the Israeli to Southampton instead. Indeed, reports had suggested that an agreement was close.

However, HSV are currently holding back. They’ll only sanction such a deal to let their backup goalkeeper depart once a replacement is in sight.

The Hamburg club are working intensively on signing a new goalkeeper as a result. He will be number two behind Daniel Heuer Fernandes. They’ve been aware of Peretz’s desire to leave the club for a while.

The goalkeeper missed training on Friday, but this didn’t have anything to do with a potential move to Southampton. HSV instead insisted his absence was due to travel issues.

“We are aware of the situation he is facing and are in very intensive discussions. However, this has nothing to do with his late arrival. His flight was cancelled,” explained coach Merlin Polzin.

It seems, then, that Southampton may be forced to wait for this January transfer addition, despite Peretz and Bayern both being happy to do business.
