Napoli have ‘put their foot down on the accelerator’ to get midfielder Onel Mangala from Nottingham Forest this month.
That’s according to Il Mattino, who follow up reports elsewhere that the Italian champions are pushing to get their man.
The newspaper reports that Napoli stepped on the gas last night for the Republic of Congo international, who only has a year left on his deal at Nottingham Forest.
They’re keen to get rid of him and ‘monetise’ him because of that, preferring to sell this month rather than let him enter the final year of his deal in the summer and need to accept a reduced fee.
Napoli, though, are not seemingly willing to pay at this moment in time and would prefer to secure a loan deal for the player. The formula of that ‘is yet to be perfected’.
However, the distance between the two clubs is not a considerable one and there are ‘glimmers of hope’ that a deal can be struck with Nottingham Forest at some point.
The obvious answer is a loan deal with either an option to buy or obligation to buy, a deal Napoli have done before when signing Franck Zambo Anguissa from Fulham in 2022
Nottingham Forest seem resistant to that for now but there is plenty of time left in the transfer window and there is confidence in Italy that the gap between both parties can be closed.
