Earlier on Tuesday, we covered the Brazilian media reporting that Chelsea’s recent signing Andrey Santos could be sent back to Brazil on loan.
With the player not able to get a work permit yet, it was said he could move to a club who are playing the Copa Libertadores to accelerate the process of being eligible for a visa.
That initially meant he’d not return to Vasco da Gama, since they had been playing in the second division last year and are not qualified for the continental tournament this season. However, according to Globo Esporte, they actually stand a good chance of getting Andrey on loan from Chelsea.
The outlet learned that the midfielder’s contract with the Blues includes a clause which says his former club have priority for a loan. They must at least be notified about Chelsea’s intention in transferring him temporarily, and they have the right to say if they’re interested, although the final decision belongs to the player.
And even though Vasco are not in the Copa Libertadores this year, that should not stop him from getting the necessary points to get the work permit. That’s because he’d play the first division in Brazil and the U20 World Cup later on. That should be enough for him to be granted a visa and feature for Chelsea next season.
