Besiktas president Hasan Arat will be knocking on Chelsea’s door in the summer as he plans a big spend to reinvent the squad.
That’s according to journalist Gökmen Özcan, who believes Arat will be targeting Chelsea once again once the season comes to a close.
The Blues are expected to be busy in the summer trying to get players out of the squad once again, having undergone a severe trimming of their bloated squad last summer.
Reports in England have made it clear they need to bring in serious funds from sales to help balance the books and ensure the club can dodge both FFP and PSR breaches thanks to the big spending undertaken by Todd Boehly and co since their arrival.
Thus, there could be something of a fire sale on the way and Besiktas could be ready to take advantage of that.
They were linked with several players throughout the January transfer window, with Armando Broja’s agent confirming interest and it even claimed manager Fernando Santos had turned down three Chelsea players when they were offered.
No deals ended up taking place but Özcan sees that changing once this season comes to an end and the summer transfer window is open.
“President Hasan Arat left the Chelsea and PSG cards until the end of the season,” he said.
“That is, he couldn’t make a transfer happen from either side in the January transfer window. So, the first two clubs he will knock on the door of in the summer are PSG and Chelsea.
“I think President Hasan Arat did not act in a hurry and save the big moves for the end of the season. In other words, in the summer transfer period. Well, there is a high probability that Besiktas will be the transfer champions of the summer transfer period.
“President Hasan Arat said we have money and made this clear. Besiktas will spend a lot of money on transfers during the summer and create a squad that will make a splash. You can play 11 foreign players in the new season, and I think that nine at Besiktas will be foreigners.”
