Following the news regarding Matheus Martins’ transfer to Udinese and then expected loan to Watford, we now get to see Brazilian side Fluminense commenting on the rumour.

Club president Mario Bittencourt had a word with the local press on Tuesday evening, and when qasked about the winger, he gave some details about the potential sale.

“The player is not sold yet. There’s a negotiation going on, it’s no secret to anyone. Since June, this group that controls Udinese and Watford has been trying to make proposals for the player,” said Bittencourt (via Netflu).

“There was a very low one in mid-year. We understood that it was much below the market value and have been negotiating since then. About the price, I always say that the sale value is the market value. I invite you to do a study on the biggest sales of Brazilian attackers since the pandemic. Fluminense’s sales are among the top 10, with a fixed part plus bonuses.”

By mentioning a ‘group’ who takes care of Udinese and Watford, Bittencourt confirms that the Pozzo family may be taking the player to the Italian or English club.

UOL this week reported that even though it’s the Serie A side who would initially buy the player, he’d actually be sent to Vicarage Road on loan.

It was claimed the transfer would initially cost between €8m and €9m, and it’s not yet clear how long Matheus Martins would stay at Watford for, in case the intention is really to have him at Udinese in the future.

Speaking to the Brazilian media at the weekend, the attacker himself not only confirmed the negotiations, but also highlighted his wish of playing in Europe.
