About a month ago, the Portuguese press claimed Sporting would be interested in signing Adrien Silva back from Leicester City.

Newspaper A Bola said the midfielder would be the club’s favourite name to replace Bruno Fernandes, who was leaving for Manchester United.

With Bruno’s move confirmed, now it’s time to wait and see if the Lions will move for the Foxes’ player. And that’s why the Lions’ president has been asked about it.

Frederico Varandas has given an interview to newspaper Record this week, and was quizzed if Adrien Silva would fit the ‘reality’ of Sporting’s market in the next summer window.

“If there is a need… Sporting will always be open to good opportunities. Always,” Frederico Varandas told Record.

“He’s a player I know, like my hand. But I cannot be here to commit myself… It will depend a lot on how the market is. Sporting can’t afford to have three good players in the same position. I’m speculating. Maybe Doumbia arrives and has a proposal at the end of the year. We also have Palhinha.”

Adrien Silva is currently having a loan spell in France, where he’s signed a one-year deal with AS Monaco. He has 23 appearances for the club so far, and considering what’s been happening with Islam Slimani, it’s hard to imagine the midfielder getting back to Leicester City’s squad.
