The Portuguese press finally brings an update on the offer made by Newcastle United to sign Andreas Samaris from Benfica.

Website Desporto ao Minuto was able to confirm the bid, but claims the midfielder received an offer to stay at the Lisbon side as well.

Newcastle’s terms are said to be better than Benfica’s. However, Samaris is keen on staying at the Eagles, and is currently negotiating this new contract with the club.

That’s all Desporto ao Minuto has to say for now, claiming that the Benfica president Luís Filipe Vieira is ‘stopping’ Newcastle’s attempt by offering the player this new deal.

It’s hard to see players in Portugal refusing an offer from the Premier League, especially for a guy who has only four league appearances this season.

Now it’s also interesting that Benfica’s answer to Newcastle’s offer is still to be reported, although the amount doesn’t seem very attractive for the Portuguese side.
