A while ago, we covered a claim in the local French media that Tottenham were still interested in Montpellier’s Elye Wahi.
The interest from Spurs dates back to a while ago, but with Harry Kane still at the club and a potential move to Bayern Munich taking its time, they haven’t had a chance to move for anyone in attack yet.
However, that’s something Tottenham are planning on doing, as revealed by Laurent Nicollin, the president of Montpellier, to RMC Sport.
The club leader gave a lengthy interview to the French outlet about the Ligue 1 team and their plans going forward, which could be with or without their young star.
Asked directly about the player’s future, that’s when Nicollin brought up the idea that Tottenham could soon come forward for Wahi.
He said: “There are offers for Wahi, we are waiting for more. We had an offer from Chelsea a week ago. We thanked them, but we refused. We wait. I’ve had Tottenham who are interested, and they should move soon. There’s Frankfurt too. The musical chairs game, if Kane leaves Tottenham and/or Kolo Muani from Frankfurt, it will move.
“We’ve also learned that Benfica are interested. We aren’t in a rush. If he stays, he stays, there’s no issue there. It’s a pleasure. We sold Mavididi and likely will Esteve. Elye has said he wants to leave, we agreed with his agents. We are working together.”
The 20-year-old enjoyed a breakout season during the last campaign, taking Ligue 1 by storm by scoring 19 goals in 33 league games, alongside another six assists.
