In the winter market, Genoa signed Tottenham Hotspur’s Djed Spence on loan deal with a purchase option.
On June 5th, Calciomercato stated the Serie A side aren’t willing to exercise the €10m buying option and their president, Andres Blazquez, made a trip to London to request Spurs to offer a discount.
Two days later, Genoa sporting director Marco Ottolini revealed that his side are in talks with Tottenham for the right-back.
On Friday, Blazquez had a chat with the Italian media, where he talked about the 23-year-old when discussing potential signings for the summer window. His comments are relayed by Calciomercato.it.
The president has indicated his side have a desire to make Spence’s stay permanent, and want Tottenham to lower their demand.
“On the right we have Sabelli who did very well and then there is Spence for whom Tottenham doesn’t give any discounts,” he said.
There wasn’t any mention of the fee Genoa are willing to invest to buy Spence from either Blazquez or Calciomercato.it. Last week, Gazzetta dello Sport reported the Serie A side could consider signing the Spurs defender for around €7-8m.
Tottenham may have to make a decision on the fullback if Genoa are unable to extend his stay.
Spence clocked in 853 minutes from 16 games for Genoa this year.
