Brighton & Hove Albion are today mentioned by the Argentine media in a bit of a strange rumour.
In the past few months, the Seagulls have been heavily linked to Boca Juniors star Valentin Barco, and this story hasn’t developed much lately.
It turns out that, according to website Boca Noticias, Brighton are interested in another player from the Buenos Aires club. That’s goalkeeper Leandro Brey.
The story claims that Boca Juniors president Juan Roman Riquelme ‘fears’ that the Seagulls will sign both Barco and Brey in January.
The 21-year-old is seen as the club’s ‘future goalkeeper’, but since he hasn’t played much, Brighton now show up as a threat to get him signed.
The reason why this story is a little weird is that Brey is Boca Juniors’ third option for the position, only has one appearance for their first team, and hasn’t played any major tournaments with Argentina’s youth ranks either.
Since that’s just a specific website reporting this for now, we should probably wait and see if any major Argentine outlet will have more to say about this alleged chase in the coming days.
