As the Brazilian media continues to speak of Chelsea’s pursuit of Corinthians midfielder Gabriel Moscardo, we now see Goal Brasil featuring the freshest news on this chase.
The outlet brings a story explaining there’s now a battle between Barcelona and the Blues for the signing. The Catalan side haven’t moved yet, and are set to decide a valuation before placing an offer.
That’s the opposite of Chelsea, who, according to the local media, already placed two bids for the player. Goal recalls that the Stamford Bridge side’s highest bid could have reached €25m including bonuses, and that was turned down by Corinthians.
Now what’s actually interesting in this new story is that the outlet explains why the Timão are demanding so much for Moscardo.
Brazilian youngsters, especially midfielders, normally move to Europe for between €15m and €20m. Just this year, we’ve seen the likes of Andrey Santos, Danilo, João Gomes, Matheus França and others go in that bracket.
Goal explains that Corinthians want at least €30m, and the reason is that club president Duilio Monteiro Alves believes the sale would be bad for his ‘image’ while running the club. He’s been highly questioned lately, especially about getting too little for transfers, and that would only make things worse.
The good news is that his mandate only runs until the end of the year, so Chelsea may have a bigger chance with their next president.
