It seems Manchester United’s pursuit of Benfica striker Gonçalo Ramos is not over. At least not for the Eagles’ management.
Even though the links between the Red Devils and the player haven’t been as strong as before, there are people at the Lisbon side who apparently believe this transfer is still possible this summer.
It’s Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã who today shares a story about that. Their headline is about Benfica manager Roger Schmidt making pressure for Ramos to stay at the club for another season.
Benfica already resisted to a €50m offer from an unnamed club, and the request from Eagles president Rui Costa is said to be of €80m.
According to Correio da Manhã, the club chief believes that with the ‘market’s evolution’, some clubs such as Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain, who’ve been showing interest in Ramos, ‘will come close’ to that amount.
A few months ago, many reports from the Portuguese media had been claiming Benfica would demand over €100m for the striker, who’s protected by a €120m release clause.
So now it seems the more Manchester United waited, the more his price has dropped.
