With N’Golo Kanté seemingly set for an exit from Chelsea on a free transfer at the end of the season, a number of clubs have taken an interest in the Frenchman.
The main question mark surrounding the 31-year-old these days is his fitness, as he has spent the vast majority of the current season injured.
This means he has barely played for Chelsea and missed out on the World Cup with France, with his future ahead of him.
There have been numerous claims that Barcelona have been working hard on trying to get him to sign for them, but the La Liga giants are now facing a new threat: that of Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
Having just signed Cristiano Ronaldo, they are looking for their next big coup, which could be the Chelsea defensive midfielder.
Sport carry a report on the situation on Wednesday, claiming the Saudi Arabian side are ‘in a position to offer him an astronomical contract’, which the footballer is reportedly ‘thinking about’.
That being said, Barcelona are said to be ‘somewhat calm’ regarding all this, since it seems Kanté ‘would have prioritised, until now, the option of Barça to continue his career’.
It’s pointed out that Kanté ‘is still in talks’ with Chelsea regarding a potential extended stay, but ‘it already seems clear that he wants to leave the Premier League’ for a new adventure.
Barcelona are waiting to see how he returns from his setbacks before sinking the blow, and ‘nothing will be signed until the footballer’s full recovery is certain’.
While Al-Nassr have come forward and would give him a lot of money to move there, ‘the midfielder’s goal is to continue competing at the highest level in Europe’ if such an opportunity presents itself to him.
That’s what Barcelona are trying to do, but they want to make sure they get the best possible Kanté, rather than one that will get injured on a regular basis.
