Borussia Dortmund have been ‘plunged into dilemma’ as West Ham United have now made an official bid for Niclas Füllkrug.
That’s according to Ruhr Nachrichten and journalist Florian Plettenberg, who both cover the striker today and West Ham’s now official attempt to get him.
First Plettenberg, who reports that West Ham have made a €25m offer, including add-ons, for the German striker. Dortmund have not rejected this but are looking for €30m, a figure West Ham won’t reach.
Füllkrug is keen to join West Ham immediately, though, as they’re offering to match his wages in Dortmund but give him a deal until 2027 with the option of another year.
Ruhr Nachrichten, meanwhile, say that West Ham are ‘courting’ the striker, who has strictly refused to answer questions about his future, even when asked by curious autograph hunters face to face.
Their interest has seen Dortmund ‘plunged into dilemma’ as they don’t want to sell but need the funds from a sale if they are to continue strengthening this summer.
Selling Füllkrug would ‘tear a big hole’ in the current squad structure, though, meaning they have to weigh up the pros and the cons before coming to a decision.
On the one hand it would be hard to resist a ‘horrendously high offer’ for the player, who is already 31 years old and only likely to be commanding big fees this summer. Thus, a sale would make sense.
But on the other hand, they had been planning with him and new signing Serhou Guirassy and selling him would mean entering the market again looking for a replacement.
It’s a complicated situation that needs careful consideration, but with a West Ham bid now on the table, that decision needs to come sooner rather than later.
