Paris Saint-Germain have put talks with Bournemouth over Ilya Zabarnyi on hold for the time being, after failing to strike a deal before the Club World Cup deadline.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who report that PSG failed to reach an agreement with Bournemouth over the defender this week.

The newspaper explains that PSG had hoped to have the Bournemouth defender in their squad for this week’s arrival at the Club World Cup in America. They needed to complete the deal before midnight on Tuesday so he could play in the tournament.

PSG made an offer of just under €50 but that was far from Bournemouth’s valuation. They consider the defender to be worth €75m. That difference meant there was no time to get the deal done.

The next transfer window now opens on June 16th and negotiations with Bournemouth will resume then. They’ll be very different, though, as the Parisians are in less of a hurry to conclude it.

It seems without that time pressure, they are willing to wait and bide their time, perhaps hoping to bring Bournemouth’s €75m asking price down in the process.
