Dinamo Zagreb are eyeing a move for Glasgow Rangers defender Borna Barišić, looking to secure him as he enters the final months of his contract at Ibrox.

That’s according to Germanijak, who say the Croatian side are eyeing up a ‘winter bingo’ as they look to sign Barišić by taking him away from Michael Beale and finally shore up their left-back position.

The outlet explains that the club and specifically manager Sergej Jakirovic want to bring in a left-back in the January transfer window and have made doing so ‘one of the priorities.’

Barišić is the man that they are eyeing up and the Blues ‘do not give up on the Croatian’ despite various obstacles being in their way.

The left back is still at Rangers after joining them in 2018 and has been a regular for them since then but has entered the final year of his deal at Ibrox and is yet to extend.

That means his Rangers contract expires in 2024 and, at this point, he will be free to open pre-contract talks with clubs around Europe in January.

Whether Rangers and Michael Beale plan to offer him a new deal is still unknown as the player has been in the starting line-up this season, although he was left out of the squad for the defeat to Celtic.

He remains the first choice left back in the squad and thus it could be hard to get him out of Rangers, although the compensation involved ‘should not be a problem’ for Dinamo.

The big question is whether he would want to swap Ibrox for Maksimir or has other plans, as the belief is that the offers will probably not be lacking.

There is also the question of a previous negative relationship between Barišić and Dinamo from the past which are seen as ‘concrete obstacles’ to a transfer.

That doesn’t mean Dinamo won’t try, though, and with no deadline to speak of they’re working hard to get a deal done in January.

Whether that happens will depend on Rangers and Beale’s plans, as well as whether Barišić is planning a return to his homeland at this point in his career.
