River Plate are keen on a deal for Manchester City striker Nahuel Bustos and could open negotiations for him ‘in the coming days’.

That’s according to La Pagina Millonaria, who say that Bustos ‘appears in the sights’ of the Argentinian giants as they look to add a striker to their squad.

The website explains that there have been ‘informal contacts’ with Manchester City to discover what the player’s situation currently is.

Bustos is on loan at Girona in Spain and is due to stay there until June this year but has largely played a substitute’s role for them this season.

That means Manchester City could be tempted to end it early and send him elsewhere if there is an offer of more regular football on the table.

That would come from River Plate, and there could be ‘concrete progress’ in the coming hours as they plan to ‘formally enter into negotiations’ for a deal.

At the minute, it seems impossible, but the City Group have made it clear that they would see an offer with ‘good eyes’ as he would have even more prominence and enhance his career with a giant club such as River.

Pagina Millonaria say there is a ‘good chance’ that River will ‘pick up the phone’ and start to negotiate formally to try and sign Bustos, in the process filling Marcelo Gallardo’s request for a new striker.
