Bologna are interested in Celtic’s Rocco Vata, if the latest claims in Italy are to be believed, as they try and bolster their squad with some young talent.
Quotidiano Sportivo have an article on the subject on Wednesday, explaining the Serie A side have ‘monitored with interest’ the young forward, who has yet to appear under Brendan Rodgers, having been given his debut by Ange Postecoglou last season.
They appear to be aware that Celtic do like the 18-year-old, and Bologna are ‘trying to understand if and how much room’ there is for them to get a deal done for the Ireland U19 international.
It’s recalled that Vata has scored 13 goals in 20 games this season with the B-team in Scotland, which, added to his four first-team appearances, lead to ‘high costs at the moment’.
Despite this, they aren’t ready to give up, as Bologna could have a card up their sleeve to convince Celtic in the form of Sydney van Hooijdonk.
He could be the ‘pawn’ that helps ‘unblock the operation’, because he is one of the strikers the Scottish side are ‘keeping tabs on’ after they saw a refusal from Sturm Graz in their attempts to sign Szymon Wlodarczyk.
However, if a deal is to be made, Quotidiano Sportivo, in a separate article, believe it will have to wait until at least next week, since Bologna need Van Hooijdonk against Cagliari in the absence of Joshua Zirkzee, who is suspended for one game.
There is a deal there to be done if Celtic do want the Dutchman, but they would have to, in turn, sacrifice one of the brightest talents in their youth set up to get it done.
