Following the arrival of Bill Foley, AFC Bournemouth became a different beast on the transfer market, splashing some cash around to get some new players in.
Among the offers that were made was one for Nicolo Zaniolo, who was clearly on his way out of AS Roma, only for him to initially turn down the chance to play for the Cherries.
He then seemingly backtracked a few days later, but it was too late then, as Bournemouth had moved on and targeted other players, like Hamed Traore.
Zaniolo has since been shunned at AS Roma, where he seems unlikely to play again despite him never managing to find a new club, and part of the reason is because of how he treated the Premier League club.
This is what Corriere dello Sport report on Thursday, claiming that the owners of the Serie A side, the Friedkin family, were ‘enraged by the player’s behaviour with Roma, asking for the transfer and refusing Bournemouth’s offer’.
Dan Friedkin then ‘dictated’ what would happen in the last few days of the transfer window, which included excluding the player from the group and ‘turning down all transfers on loan with an option to buy’.
Furthermore, he was ‘deeply disappointed by Zaniolo’s attitude towards Bill Foley’s Bournemouth’, as the Texan tycoon knows the Cherries’ owner ‘personally’ and had ‘direct contact’ with him at the start of the negotiations.
Corriere then add that not only had the player ‘refused the destination’, but he also ‘deserted the meeting with the English leadership’.
