As Crystal Palace owner John Textor is about to sign the paperwork and complete the purchase of Botafogo, he doesn’t mind talking about some targets he has for the Brazilian side.

The businessman landed in Rio de Janeiro this morning, and when speaking to the local media, he was soon quizzed about his wish of signing Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani.

“It’s fun. Yes, I talked to his people, I love Cavani, I’ve loved him as a player for so long. My boys love him. But these things, they involve a lot more than just making a deal with the player. He’s in a big club right now,” said Textor (via Lance).

“There’s a lot of people that would like Cavani if he came out of Manchester United. Families. Does he come back to South America? If he does, would he come here or supposed to be going home. All that is up to him. We’ve registered our interest in Cavani. I’m sure we’re not alone. Some of these we’ll win, some will just be dreams.”

According to today’s report from Goal, Cavani’s staff indeed received the first contacts from Botafogo, and they’re ‘willing to listen’ to the project they have.

It’s said this first approach was only to show the plans John Textor has for the Rio de Janeiro club, so no personal terms have been discussed.

Botafogo’s idea is to prove their strong wish of signing the Manchester United man. Today, it was also revealed by the Brazilian media that the club’s new owner claims to have ‘more money than Barcelona’.

That’s another way of saying they can compete hard for the signing.
