Barcelona remain ‘optimistic’ that they have convinced Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gündogan to join them and hope to finalise his transfer today.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the 32-year-old is ‘a little closer’ to signing for the Catalans after the German asked for time to consider his future.
The newspaper reports that Gündogan and his agent have sent ‘positive messages’ to the club about a move after positive contacts last week.
That led to both parties reopening contacts today and despite the fact Barcelona don’t take his signing for granted sources are ‘confident’ he will be playing at the Camp Nou next season.
In fact, those same sources believe that the transfer could be finalised today as there is no problem for Barcelona in terms of registering him in the squad.
Manchester City had tried hard to keep the player, who has been key to their success once again, but only offered him a one-year extension initially.
That was raised to a two-year deal with the option of a third but Gündogan has declined this offer, as well as ones from Arsenal and Saudi Arabia, and instead looks set to sign for Barcelona in the coming hours.
