Argentine side Independiente have opened talks with Celtic over full-back Alexander Bernabei about a potential move for the 23-year-old.
That’s according to Ole and De La Cuna Al Infierno, who both cover a potential move for the defender.
The newspaper explains that Independiente are making movements in the market at this moment in time, keeping their eye on several options and waiting for their opportunity to move.
They want to strengthen the squad but are limited in what they can do as the club are dealing with debts totaling over $5m.
Those in charge are confident of reaching an agreement with creditors to pay that in instalments but until such an agreement is reached, they can’t move definitively on transfers.
They’re still lining up potential deals, though, and Celtic’s Bernabei is one of the names on their list. According to Ole, he is one of the names ‘on the radar’ at the club.
They report that ‘conversations were started’ with Celtic for the defender, who is currently on loan at Internacional in Brazil.
There’s no mention of the nature of those talks or whether they’d want a loan deal or a permanent move for the Argentine.
He joined Celtic in July 2022 but has only made 21 appearances since then and joined the Brazilian side on loan in March this year, with that set to run until December 31st this year.
De La Cuna Al Infierno add different information, stating that loan deal has an exit clause included in it and Independiente would also be looking for a loan deal. They also claim that the player ‘welcomes the possibility’ of playing for the Argentine club.
Talks have seemingly been opened with Celtic about a possible deal either way, so he may be a name to keep an eye on moving forwards.
