Sevilla are ‘attempting to convince’ Celtic’s Luis Palma to avoid a permanent move to Lech Poznan and join them instead this summer.
Estadio Deportivo report that the Spanish side are working to keep Palma as an option for the summer transfer window, despite Celtic’s agreement with Lech Poznan.
Loan deal into permanent exit
Luis Palma has been impressing on loan at Lech Poznan this season, with eight goals and nine assists in 41 appearances in all competitions to date.
The belief is that the Polish side are ‘almost certain’ to exercise a €4m option to buy the 26-year-old on a permanent basis from Celtic. They would either keep him, or sell for a quick, easy profit.
But Sevilla are looking to intervene. Officials in Nervión are still attempting to convince the Honduran player to join them instead. They want him to push Celtic to accept their offer over Lech’s.
They’ve targeted the winger too. And director of football Antonio Cordón is now attempting to prevent a permanent move happening. He is ‘seeking to persuade’ Palma to move to Spain instead.
A complementary option
Sevilla see plenty of value in the deal. Luis Palma could act as a complementary option to Rubén Vargas. Or, if he is sold, as a high-calibre replacement. It’s a win-win.
The current asking price is not beyond their means either. That, of course, is assuming Celtic would sell for the same price they have agreed with Lech Poznan. That could be up for debate.
Sevilla won’t make any definitive moves until their La Liga status is secured. Planning for the top flight is a very different idea to planning for the second flight. But the club’s hierarchy have plans which will allow them to pivot if need be.
One positive is that there is space for the Celtic winger. He would occupy a non-EU roster spot, but Sevilla have room to include him. Thus, the groundwork has been laid.
Now they’re trying to convince him to ignore Lech Poznan, return to Celtic Park this summer and then move to La Liga instead. That’s assuming they are in La Liga, of course.
