Belgian winger Charly Musonda spent the last season on loan at La Liga side Real Betis, who are very keen on extending his stay.
It is reported Real Betis have already made an offer for Musonda, but Chelsea have asked them to wait for another few weeks.
It’s not clear if Chelsea are waiting for other clubs to show interest in taking Musonda on loan, or the delay is for some other reason.
There could be an idea at Chelsea that Musonda may be used in another deal.
Real Betis’ sporting director, Miguel Torrecilla, has confirmed to the Spanish media that Chelsea are delaying the transfer, but they’re quite optimistic about their chances of signing the player.
He told Spanish media (via Diario de Sevilla): “Chelsea have hired a coach, who is also a national team coach and that makes things go a bit slower than we would like.
“We all want him to continue with us and we are waiting for Chelsea to take the decision. He is a fringe player, it’s not easy.
“The Betis has put the player in the window and it makes sense to have several suitors. However, we are optimistic, because the player himself has already told us that he’d like to continue with us.
“We are optimistic, although it is clear that everything has a limit.”
At some point, Real Betis could walk away from any possible deal, if Chelsea keep delaying their decision.
The player is keen on extending his loan spell, and seems to have settled at the club, so it looks to be a win-win situation for all parties.
