Fenerbahce vice president Semih Ozsoy has spoken to the Turkish media after the club’s convincing 2-0 win against Goztepe at the weekend.

Ozsoy was asked about Leicester City loanne Islam Slimani, who was reportedly linked with a move to Real Betis on transfer deadline day.

Slimani was an unused substitute during the Istanbul club’s win and Ozsoy confirmed the Turkish club held talks with Betis with regards to the Leicester City man: “Slimani wanted to leave. We held talks with Betis. After we considered, we decided for him to stay until the end of the season. If he left the club then we needed to buy a striker, but he will be with us.”

Fenerbahce manager Ersun Yanal also spoke about Slimani after the game and insisted he’s ready to help the Algeria international regain his form.

Throughout the last transfer window Fenerbahce were trying to offload Slimani after his disappointing loan move from Leicester City in the last summer window. The forward has played fourteen Super Lig games for the Yellow Canaries, scoring just one goal.

There were claims the Turkish side tried to send him back to Leicester City, but the Foxes rejected this idea.
