Earlier today, we relayed words from one of Emre Can’s former managers at international youth level, claiming he was expecting more from the Liverpool midfielder.
Of course, when the talent is there, the demand to perform follows, but it seems Juventus, as you probably already know, have seen enough to come to the conclusion they could do with Jürgen Klopp’s man.
However, before they can do that, they need to convince him to run down his contract with Liverpool due to end next summer, and Beppe Marotta, the club’s CEO, has admitted as much, relayed by Corriere dello Sport.
He said: “Goretzka and Emre Can for June? They are two luxury free transfers and we are waiting on the sidelines, but what really matters is each player’s will.”
Having already discarded the possibility of Juventus making a move for the Germany international in January, Marotta appears very keen to get a free transfer sorted if he can.
The ball, as it has been for many months now, is firmly in Emre Can’s court, and his decision to either renew at Liverpool or let his contract run down will be key.
Little has filtered from the former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder’s camp, so, for now, the odds are 50/50.
The closer we get to January, however, the more the Liverpool board will start sweating. What’s key for the club now is Jurgen Klopp’s persuasiveness and whether he can convince Can to stick around.
