Reading have signed Steaua București winger Adrian Popa, according to the Romanian club’s owner.
Popa is 28 years of age and has been with Steaua București since 2012, he’ll be joining up with Jaap Stam’s Reading with a clear intention to fight for Premier League promotion, because that would greatly enhance his salary.
Gigi Becali, who ownw the Romanian club, has been speaking to DigiSport and confirmed the talks, and Popa’s willingness to leave. The player tried to put pressure on Becali to let him go, pointing out he could leave in the summer for free, but the club owner feels he got a good deal from Reading regardless.
Reading will, according to the claims, be paying €600k for the player, a lower price than would necessarily have been the case, because Popa’s contract was due to expire in June.
The player will receive a salary of €825k per year, and will see that double should Reading win promotion to the Premier League.
