Following the video that circulated on the internet of Romelu Lukaku saying he was unsure whether a deal between Chelsea and Juventus could be struck for his services, the Italian media are trying to salvage the situation.
Of course, it remains a question of money, which the Turin side currently don’t have, and that’s why they are trying to find a way around it.
Corriere dello Sport have a big article on it on Monday, and recall that Chelsea are open to selling the Belgium international for €40m.
While that is great news for Juventus, they aren’t capable of meeting that sum just yet, and the hope was for them to sell Dusan Vlahovic before moving for Lukaku.
Well, the newspaper believe that the Serie A side are now trying to kill two birds with one stone, as they try and ‘tighten up’ negotiations by ‘offering Vlahovic’ to Chelsea once again.
Seeing as the Blues are still looking for a new striker, that could be something they consider, but any deal of that sort would have to see the Stamford Bridge side pay a fee on top of Lukaku’s inclusion.
After all, Juventus have always made it clear they want a fee of at least €70m, if not more, for the Serbian, and if the Belgian is only worth €40m, well, you do the maths.
There’s no indication that Chelsea will go for this just yet, but with Cristiano Giuntoli and Max Allegri agreeing ‘in an instant’ they wanted Lukaku in Turin, they are ‘not giving up’ and remain confident based on the ‘agreement reached weeks ago’ with both club and player.
They just need the money.
