Aston Villa defender Clement Lenglet has now been offered to Napoli as he continues to look for a new club this month.
That’s according to Il Mattino, relayed by Area Napoli, who say ‘English emissaries’ have sent an offer to Napoli.
Lenglet joined Aston Villa on loan in the summer from Barcelona after a similar spell at Tottenham last season, with the Catalans making it clear he is not a part of their plans moving forwards.
The hope was that he would establish himself under Unai Emery and potentially secure a permanent exit, but he has barely featured under the Spaniard this season thanks to the success of Pau Torres, who also arrived in the summer.
He’s featured over the last few weeks as Emery has rotated but it’s been made clear that is not enough for Lenglet, whose agents have been offering him around Europe.
The latest club to receive a proposal are Napoli, according to Il Mattino, who say he was offered by ‘English emissaries’ as it’s known the Italian champions are on the hunt for a centre-back, particularly is Leo Østigård departs.
Indeed, manager Walter Mazzarri has asked for a player in that position, and it seems the Aston Villa loanee’s agents are looking to take advantage of that.
For now, Napoli ‘have taken their time’ and are ‘making the appropriate assessments’ of the player before potentially making their move for the defender.
