Italian champions Napoli are ‘really close to signing’ Aston Villa midfielder Leander Dendoncker in a surprise move.

That’s according to journalist Gianluca di Marzio, who reports that a deal is nearly done to take the midfielder to Naples.

Napoli are keen to strengthen their squad before the end of the January transfer window, with President Aurelio de Laurentiis having promised signing this month after a disappointing first half of the season.

Adding a midfielder to their squad has been a priority and it appears they are now doing that with a signing from Aston Villa.

Di Marzio reports that Napoli have ‘practically closed’ a deal with Aston Villa for the midfielder, backing reports from England stating the same.

According to his information on his website, the two clubs have been in talks, and they have progressed rapidly, with only the ‘very last details’ being arranged.

Napoli will sign the Belgian on loan with a right to buy included for ‘around €10m’ should they wish to make the move permanent in the summer.

Not only that, but he also added that the medical is now set for Wednesday.
