Last summer, Everton were trying to recruit Mohammed Kudus from Ajax Amsterdam as they sought to bolster Frank Lampard’s squad for the current season.
They tried, and the player wanted to move to Goodison Park, only for the Eredivisie side to block the move, as they knew they were going to sell Antony to Manchester United.
The Ghana international has since stepped up in the Brazilian’s absence, and has become instrumental to the club’s season.
He boasts 18 goals and five assists in 35 appearances in all competitions, and that’s despite him barely featuring from the off during the first half of the campaign.
Kudus, who was frustrated at missing out on a move to Everton, still made the most of the opportunities he was given, and has seen his stock increase drastically over the past few months.
So much so that Everton now have little to no chance of getting him, such is the price tag have slapped on his back.
For context, the Toffees offered €12m + bonuses late in the summer window, but his price is now at least six times that according to Rafael van der Vaart on NOS, relayed by FC Update.
He said: “I’ve said it before, but Overmars thought this was his best purchase ever, by far. He’s a gem. Then, as a technical director, you really are a tyrant. Ajax do not want to sell him, because they think they can get €80-100m.”
