In the past few weeks, the Brazilian media had been sharing reports about Vasco da Gama’s interest in Southampton defender.

It was claimed that the Rio de Janeiro side were struggling to meet the Saints’ demands, as the Premier League side wanted a sale instead of a loan deal.

Now as reported by O Globo, Vasco seem to have given up on signing Lyanco from Southampton.

The outlet points out that the Cruzmaltino have just signed Chilean defender Gary Medel, and are about to take Maycon from Santos.

For this reason, Vasco reportedly ‘moved away’ from Lyanco, with O Globo mentioning that the Saints wanting permanent purchase was a problem in this chase.

Southampton should have other chances to negotiate the centre-back this summer, though. Recent reports from Brazil have claimed that Turkish side Besiktas submitted an offer to sign him.

Even though it was said the Istanbul side offered less than what the Saints demand for the player, at least it becomes clear that there are clubs willing to buy him this summer.

Lyanco’s contract with Southampton runs until 2025, and he’s valued by Transfermarkt at €3.5m.
