On Wednesday, Gazzetta dello Sport reported on West Ham making new contact for Cagliari striker Roberto Piccoli.
The newspaper claimed the Italian side want €30m to let the player leave, with the Hammers at the forefront in the race.
Sardinian outlet La Nuova Sardegna, relayed by TuttoCagliari, have an update and it concerns West Ham. They report Cagliari are aiming to attract as many suitors as possible for the 24-year-old, revealing that the auction for him ‘has begun’.
West Ham have now intensified contact for the Italian and a transfer battle with Como is teased by the newspaper. Cesc Fabregas’ side are monitoring the ex-Atalanta player closely after he impressed in the clash involving Como and Cagliari last season.
Piccoli’s club is trying to take advantage of this auction and could now be happy with around €20-€25m.
While this should come as good news to West Ham, it seems like Graham Potter’s side are being used to make sure that an Italian club comes forward for Piccoli and hands a capital profit to Cagliari, who signed the forward for €12m last month.
