Sent to Napoli on loan until the end of the season, Tanguy Ndombélé could still return to Tottenham once the campaign is over.
That’s because the option to buy in the loan is not mandatory, and a lot could depend on how the player fares going forward.
The Tottenham loanee has enjoyed a very decent first half of the season under Luciano Spalletti, slowly coming into his own as time has gone on, and with the club now in a comfortable position at the top of Serie A, they are looking towards the future.
This is what journalist Emanuele Cammaroto talks about in his column for Napoli Magazine, where he reveals tidbits of information about the Serie A side.
He explains that the club’s plan for next season is to ‘confirm the current group’, and a few players could leave in the summer.
When it comes to Ndombele, he says Napoli are ‘waiting for this second part of the season to draw conclusions’, but regardless of what happens, Aurelio De Laurentiis and Cristiano Giuntoli ‘do not intend to pay €25m’ to Tottenham for the player.
Instead, they are ‘thinking of asking for a discount’.
If that doesn’t happen, then perhaps ‘the loan could be renewed’, which could work since the player’s contract with Tottenham runs until 2025.
Either way, some negotiations are likely to take place, and it won’t be as easy as first thought.
It never is, is it?
